Domain 2: The Classroom Environment

2a. Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport

Creating a positive learning environment starts with mutual respect and rapport with my students. When students are surrounded by positive energy, will set students up for success in my classroom. At the end of my full- time student teaching, my students complimented me in a few words which highlighted the rapport I had with my students.

2b. Establishing a Culture for Learning

The structure of a classroom and creating behavioral expectations at the beginning of the year is imperative in order for students to achieve success. In order to achieve this, I have created a classroom management plan that will be put in place at the very beginning of the year. Attached is my plan that discusses the classroom procedures, addressing the needs of my students, and classroom rules.

2c. Managing Classroom Procedures

When routines and procedures are carefully taught, modeled, and established in the classroom, students understand what is expected of them. Daily itinerary at the high school level allows the students to stay on track and know what is expected of them that day. By displaying the daily itinerary, students also are aware of time management, which is a skill necessary in everyday life.

2d. Managing Student Behavior

As a dance educator, it is important for my students to understand that the dance classroom has set rules. Establishing classroom management involves clear guidelines and expectations that students should follow. Due to COVID-19 and being completely virtual, I provided a "Dance Classroom Rules- Google Meet Edition" document.

2e. Organizing Physical Space

Providing a safe, home-like environment for my students is vital. Dance involves physical participation, therefore, the classroom must be arranged specifically in order for students to stay safe. Below is a map of how I would arrange my dance classroom to provide a safe space for my students. After being part of the EdM program, I learned how important it is to incorporate a quiet area/ sensory items.
